"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines.

Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." -Mark Twain

The Fleet Arrives -- North

>> May 21, 2013

The Statue of Liberty welcomed Harvey Gamage & Virginia to NYC where students enjoyed several days of shore excursions.  Next port-of-call for both was Mystic Seaport, CT.  Crew and students alike had the unique experience of arriving at the Seaport in vessels much like thier historic sisters on display to then live for several days in the heart of this nautical Camelot.  Though apparently similiar to the exhibits afloat, Gamage & Virginia are different in a major way--they are alive!  They have hearty crews and deep sea salt freshly aquired.
Now Gamage & Virginia are in Maine waters.  Final exams will be the focus for the next few days as the boats ride quiaetly to their anchors in the vicinity of Mount Desert Island.
Out of Charleston, Amistad made a quick 3 day passage around the fearsome Capes and into the Chesapeake to Yorktown.  After 1 1/2 days alongside near the Waterman's Museum, she got underway for Philadelphia.  Memorial Day weekend will see her busy with open houses and day sails through Philadelphia's Independence Seaport Museum.  By the end of the month she'll be bound for Maine.
